Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey
I am a female with 2 daughters ages 11 and 16 getting divorced. In my original complaint I filed for joint legal custody of the children. Their father would get the kids 1 night a week and every other saturday and sunday. We are currently under this arrangement while we are doing all of the paperwork for the divorce. However, I just received a countercomplaint in the mail in which my ex-husband is asking for full custody and support from me. I was a housewife when married and now have a part time job while he makes over $100k a year as a cop. Would the court ever grant him full custody and make me pay support even though I only make $20k a year? Under what circumstances would they grant full custody to the father? I have never abused my children, have no criminal record, and I provide a loving home for them. I don't want to lose my kids. Please help. Thank you.

First and foremost you should be represented by an Attorney. Secondly in most counterclaims in the Wherefore clause this is very common. The purpose of this is to protect the countercompaining persons rights. If you decide to have legal counsel please call my office so that I can properly represent your interests.
