The two of you will get divorced at some point. The cause of action is mostly a formality. How long it will take is anyone's guess, but I would say 6 to 9 months is a good bet.

Even though you are not working, many attorneys, such as myself, accept credit cards, so if you have one, you can afford an attorney. If you truly have no money, try legal services and see what they can offer you.

Re: What should I do?

The time that it will take for you to get your divorce is determined more by how cooperative the two of you are with each other than anything else. If the two of you can resolve everything between you, you could probably have a divorce in a month or less. A complicated financial situation and custody issues could slow the divorce time frame. The cause of action that each of you have chosen has nothing to do with the speed of the divorce.

If you cannot afford a lawyer, call Legal Services in your county. Rob Gleaner
