Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

Harassment

I am seperated from my husband and will be filing soon for divorce. Everyday I receive voice messages and text messages which are degrading and insulting. I have been keeping a journal and record everything he says. What can be done to make him stop harassing me? Can the police help in this situation? A restraining order? I need help!

Re: Harassment

Thank you for your inquiry.

If the phone calls are done in a harrassing manner, you should call the police and inquire about a temporary restraining order. If you are awarded an order of protection, you should have an attorney with you at the final hearing, which would occur about one week after you receive the temporary order.

As it would be my pleasure to speak to you regarding your potential divorce, please feel free to contact my office at 732 246 0909 to discuss same.

Very truly yours,
