Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

harrassment by mail

i have received 5 annonymous letters in the last month telling me that my husband is having an affair. i know the letters are coming from a former neighbor but cannot prove it. she has included a woman's name and phone number and has begged me to call her and confront her. she poses as this womans neighbor and acts as if she is writing these letters to do me a favor. my husband did have a relationship with the woman listed 8 years ago when we were separated and i knew about it but he ended it when we reconciled. i unfortunately told only one neighbor these facts and believe she repeated them to the one who is writing these letters. the police say they can do nothing but make copies of the letters and put them in a file since she does not sign them and i can't prove that it is her.is there anyway i can get the police to question who i think is doing this or the woman named in the letters? she is now talking about my daughter in them and saying what bad parents we are, etc. i know these accusations are false and just want the letters to stop. please tell me what i have a right to legally. thank you.

You should have a lawyer write a letter demanding a cessation of the conduct and indicating what will be done if the practice does not stop.

You could have an attorney write a letter to your neighbor strongly suggesting that such letters must stop immediately.
