Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

Headstone-Name change

My Mom's headstone has her maiden name on it. my Grandmother put it on there, she paid for the stone. My Mom did not want that name on there. it kills me to see it. Is there a way to have the stone changed? Do I, as the Daughter, even though I didn't pay for the stone have any legal rights to change my Mom's name? If I purchased another stone, could I have the current stone removed? Please help me, this is causing lots of problems in our family. Thank you very much.

Re: Headstone-Name change

Please be advised that I have not been retained to represent you and I am basing my reply on a limited amount of information supplied. However, did your mother have a will? If so, did she make any specifications about the head stone? What proofs do you have of your mother's wish to have her married name on the headstone? If there is nothing from your mother one way or the other, what name was your mother using at the time of her passing? Though this seems like a stright forward question, the answer is that it depends on several factors and if you wish to discuss this further, I can be reached at 908-537-7975.

whoever is the executor or adminstrator of the estate makes the decision on the stone.
