Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey
I hired a divorce attorney and paid a $5000 retainer. After several weeks the attorney tells me he cannot represent me because my spouse interviewed my attorney first but did not hire him. They now refuse to return my $5000 retainer.
What are my options?

Well you clearly need a new attorney. Your new attorney should be able to get the retainer back for you. I'd be happy to help. Call me anytime at 732/773/2768
That is just completely and totally wrong, and they are facing some very serious ethical and legal charges if you pursue this. And you should.
Please call me to discuss this. I am not in your area, and I am fully capable of going after a local Monmouth County attorney. Most lawyers in your area will not want to sue another attorney in their own area.
Shame on them. Get going, get your money back, and more.

You are entitled to a return of your retainer. Your best route would be to come and see me. I have resolved similiar situations in the past. Secondly you can call the fee arbitration committee in the county where the attorney is located and also file an ethics grievance.
