Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey
my husband denies me access to money
I've been married for 13yrs, living together for 18.We have 2 children together. I have had the same full-time job from 1989 to 2006. I became ill in 7/06-many surgeries, etc., and my dr. put me on temp disability. (1st time in our marriage I did not work). My husband stopped working in 2004, and was awarded total SS Disab. in 2/07. He also has workmans comp case pretty close to being settled w/his attys. I was discharged once again from hospital-after procedures last week. I unfortunately have had to make a career change & start all over due to my health. I start a new job next week, not nearly as much pay as I'm used to. We have struggled financially, waiting for SSI retroactive payment for my husband, with me being sole supporter until my health issues. When I became sick, I could not work. I wanted to! Question is: my husband removed me from our joint credit cards we've had for 18yrs. When he recvd his SSI-finally, he paid-off some of our debt, then opened a new savings acct in his name only for the balance. He just informed me last night his Comp case will be settled soon and he's depositing the full amount in a safety deposit box. We have been having marital problems since I've been sick. Do i have any right to be upset?

I see that you are in Bayville, I have an office in Toms River. I suggest you see an attorney as soon as possible. It sounds like things are going from bad to worse. There are too many issues to discuss and this site does not allow us to have a fluid discussion and does not allow us to exchange information.
My initial consultations are always free, so call me at 732/247/3340 to discuss your case.
