Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

My husband and I have been separated for four years, we have a five year old daughter (which he has not seen since she was an infant), I do collect child support from him (although he is in arrears right now). I have been trying to get him served with divorce papers for the past year (with out success). Last weekend, my husband came to my house in South NJ (he lives in NYC) and thru some papers (his divorce papers) in doorway while my 13 year old twins were home alone (I went to the store for groceries). Is this the proper way to serve someone legal documents and can he serve my children? Now my lawyers says that she can not represent me in NYC when I go to see his lawyer but I don't want to go with out a lawyer what can I do?

You will probably need to hire counsel in New York to get that action dismissed. Now that you know where your husband is you can serve him with your divorce action here in New Jersey.
