Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey
Interstate Custody law
My 10 yr old son and his mother live in Michigan. I live in New Jersey and we were never married. I've been diligent with child support payments but she only allows me to see my son a few days a year when I travel to Michigan. I want my son to be able to spend summer vacations with me. In this case, what type of experience should I look for in a family lawyer and do I need a lawyer in New Jersey and in Michigan?

Re: Interstate Custody law
Well I know attorneys with 30 years of experience and they are not the brightest attorneys at all. I know other attorneys that have only been out a few years and know a lot, so its knowlege more than experience in my opinion.
You have to follow the child, so if the child is in Michigan you would normally file in Michigan. However, I would need to know where the child was born and if a removal proceeding was ever brought to give you a better answer.
