Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

New Jersey - my daughter turned 18 in Dec. 12 and will graduate from high school in June. I am retired and on Medicare. My current wife was carrying the daughter on her group policy at work but left her job. My divorce decree orders me to provide insurance for my "minor" child and pay 60% of bills not covered by insurance. My daughter had leukemia as a child and is ineligible for ANY private policy and COBRA is too expensive. My question - is my daughter still a "minor" and if she has no health insurance coverage and her mother obtains coverage thru the state (Medicaid), would I be responsible for those bills?

When she graduates in June from high school, she MIGHT be emancipated and you may be able to stop paying child support, health insurance and any other obligations. However, is she going to college?

You really need to talk to a divorce attorney and get some advice.

Call me, come in and see me, and I will assist.

I don't think medicaid is the issue, emancipation is the issue. See www.njchildsupportattorney.com
