Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

new jersey family law

My question is if i were to give up my parental rights does that mean i am still obligated financially for the child? Another words if i am paying child support now can i file a motion to give up my parental rights in which that will exclude me from any financial or visistation rights? You can email your response to [email protected]. Thankyou

If a court orders your parental rights terminated then you would no longer have a support obligation. However, absent having someone to step into your shoes, i.e, an adoptive parent, it is highly unlikely that a court would terminate your rights based on any application that you might file. The concept is that your child has the right to support which you cannot unilaterally terminate.
