New Jersey law concerning Child Support

Question is: If a Child in sixteen years old and NOT attending school, does the custodial parent still receive child support. Child and custodial parent live in the state of New Jersey.

It seems to me that there is a larger issue here than the payment of child support. Even the non-custodial parent should be concerned if his/her 16 year old is not attending school. In any case, child support stops when the child is emancipated, which can be defined in several ways. However, it basically means when the child is (or should be) self supporting, has obtained a job, reached 18 or has finished school. If your 16 year old is working, she may be emancipated. Part time - maybe not. And the reason she is not in school certainly needs to be explored. To get a more specific answer, you need to immediately contact a NJ lawyer who is experienced in this area.
