Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

leaving the husband, no children

Hi, I am currently residing with my husband in his parents home in New Jersey, we do not pay rent. We have a storage unit containing all of our shower gifts and contents from our previous apartment (the storage unit is in his name but payment has been made out of our joint checking). We also have co-owned things ie:furniture, tv, computer in his parents home, where we reside. I have a plan in place to leave my husband. what I need to know is: I need to know what the law states regarding what co-owned property I can take when I leave. Also is there any way i can gift items before I leave? I want to make sure my in-laws cant turn around after I leave their son and say I owe them rent? We were living there rent free so we could save money, which did not happen, unless hes been stashing away money with out my knowledge.

Sounds like this is a rather simple divorce and there is no reaosn to make it complicated by handling these issues without an attorney. You shouldn't tough anything until you speak to an attorney. It shouldn't cost you much to get divorced and it should be rather quick. 732/733/2768
