Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

legal separation

my wife and i are splitting up - we are selling our house in june,

have no children. will be paying off all debt and closing all joint credit

cards - our accountant has advised us not to get divorced until next

year and file taxes together this year and keep our joint health

insurance - we intent to split the proceeds of sale after all debt is

paid off- how can we individually protect ourselves from the other

spending excessively or incurring debt if one of us got very sick and

had medical obligations?

Have you and your wife prepared a separation agreement?

You can use the separation agreement to address many of your concerns.

You really need a divorce attorney to protect you.

And sitting tight without divorcing until eight months from now is a long time.
