Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

Legal Separation/No fault Divorce

Is being legally separated for 18 months required for divorce mediation? I thought a new law had been passed in New Jersey.

There is a recent law in New Jersey which permits divorce based on irreconcilable differences which have persisted for six months.

Re: Legal Separation/No fault Divorce

the new law is 'irreconcillable differences.'

if you do mediate, it is still a VERY good idea to have a divorce attorney look over the agreement for you and advise you.

Mediation does solve a lot of divorces; I hope that works for you.

If you would like, give me a call; I am in Hackensack (northern New Jersey). I will be happy to discuss

this with you; a brief telephone consultation will be free.

As the other attorneys said, its now 6 months, but I wouldn't even worry about that. There are plenty of other causes of action that are easy to satisfy.

My initial consultations are always free, so call me at 732/247/3340 to discuss your case.
