Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

Could my loss of job affect child custody?

I have been divorced for 4 years and my ex-husband and I had joint custody of our 4 year old. He left the state 2 years ago without telling me and I have custody and my daughter lives with me 95% of the time. I lost my job last week and will be requesting to reduce spousal support payments. Could my ex come after me and get custody of our child since I'm on unemployment?

Re: Could my loss of job affect child custody?

No. It affects your ability to pay spousal support.

Your custody is supposed to be based on the best interests of the child.

I don't see how the two are related.
