While NJ tends to favor the mother, the law itself does not. I suggest you speak with an attorney. Since you did not file an appeal, it could be tough to turn this around almost a year later.

Usually the mother gets primary residential custody of her children because she is the more nurturing parent, but this is not an ironclad rule.
