Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

married name question

If after marriage, I add my new husband's last name to the end of mine and do not hypenate and still retain my first, middle and last names- If I wish to still use my maiden name in business-Do I still have to change all of my documents? Passport, Driver's Lic etc.?

Could I choose when to use the new last name-such as when registering our children for school?

Would the answer change depending on the state we live in or get married in?

Re: married name question

Hi:

I have run into the same problem. Generally, what I recommend is that your drivers license, passport be consistent. What I did is hyphenate my name on my license and passport, and use my maiden name for business.

Good Luck
