Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey
I have been married for 3-4 years. Last year, I discovered my wife was running around behind my back and by the end of the year, she left me. She is currently seeking a divorce and has hired an attorney. She did this because she was the primary source of income in our household and was making 3 times what I make in a year, and does not want to pay alimony, even though she has been supporting me and my freelance career for the last 7 years of our lives.
Aside from the devastation of her infidelity and abandonment, I now face harsh financial times. Am I eligible for alimony and can I get either legal aid or make her pay for my attorney?

You need to sit down with an Attorney to review your finances. Under some scenarios it might be possible for your wife to be ordered to put up your retainer. As far as Alimony is concerned while I do not think this is a permanent alimony case it is possible that you may be entitled to rehabilitative alimony. Contact my office to set up an appointment.
You really need to sit down with an attorney. it would be a mistake to try to represent yourself, especially where she is represented. It is possible that she will be required to pay your legal fees, but this is not guaranteed. Please call my office to schedule an appointment so we can go over the details of your specific situation and advise you properly. We can be reached at 732-663-1500.
