Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

Maximum percentage of income that can be used for support

What is the maximum percentage of net income that a spouse can be ordered to pay for alimony, child support, legal expenses, etc. I am currently being ordered to pay 60% of my net weekly income just for alimony and child support and am being asked for much more.

Re: Maximum percentage of income that can be used for support

What percentage of your income did you use to support your family before the divorce. If the answer is that you spent most of your income to support your family you are obligated, at least in the short term, to maintain the status quo.

Additionally, there is the important question of whether your wife is underemployed, based upon her education and work experience which must be addressed in the divorce.

These considerations are just part of the conversation which you should have with your attorney.
