Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

Motion to Show Cause

My ex-spouse filed a motion to show cause and my divorce lawyer never told me anything about it up until the court date. The court entered a judgement against me as a result. I never saw my ex-spouse certification for the same nor I ever faced the judge to respond to the motion.

Was my divorce lawyer negligent for failing to inform me of the motion ?

Without know more, it sure sounds like it. You may want to consult with a new attorney and then file a motion ASAP.

Re: Motion to Show Cause

You should have been consulted as to the contents of the papers supporting the motion prior to the hearing so that the proper response to the motion could be prepared. You could file a motion for reconsideration of the motion, based on your response to the same papers, but you must do this immediately.
