Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

NJ Common Law, Alimony & Joint Property Dissolution

Although NJ does NOT have a Common Law Marriage Statute what happens when 2 people separate after purchasing a home and all the furnishings together as a family with the intent of marriage. What happens to the woman who gave up her single role as a mother in a secure apartment who now is asked to leave all she helped build... Are there any protections for her & her child ???
