Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

NJ family law..name change?

Hey guys...I have a 3 year old

daughter from a previous relationship

gone bad. The father is around,

sometimes, and usually pays his child

support. I have been with a new man

for a few years now and we will be

getting married within the year. Now

Im pretty sure my fiance cant

''adopt'' her, but is it possible to have

her name changed to his when we

are married? Right now her last

name is mine, not the fathers. Would

she really have to keep ''my'' last

name when I marry or would I be

able to change it to my fiances?

Thanks!!!

Re: NJ family law..name change?

You can apply for a name change as the custodial parent... it will require a formal hearing and notice, but I've done quite a few of these and can help you get through the process. It will save a lot of explaining later on!
