Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

I'm in NJ, separated for 4 years & paid the mortgage on the house myself all this time. She's now pushing for a divorce lawyer free but wants me to sell the house & split any proceeds 50/50. Am I entitled to recoup any of monies I paid out from her end from the sale of the house?

You had sole use and occupancy of the house. You will probably not be given a credit for your payments. Probably, your wife will get half of the house. Sorry that I have to give you bad news in giving you an honest response.

Under certain circumstances, you may get a credit for reduction of the principal balance.

You might get credit for what you have paid down on the mortgage, but you will have to fight for it. .

There is a lot involved in a divorce. You really need to sit down with an attorney and get some guidance. The decisions you make now will have a profound, serious and long lasting effect upon you and, if you have any children with this person, it will also affect your children's lives.
