Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

The parenting seminar

Will it help my chances if I go for the parenting seminar before my ex and I go to court. It's a complicated case so I need to be as prepared as possible.

Re: The parenting seminar

I think there are issues about whether the courts here have jurisdiction if the child has been in GA for more than 6 months under the UCCJA. Before assuming that NJ has jurisdiction over a now defunct case, I would speak to a lawyer--NOW. Mention the UCCJA and home state after six months. If you email me more information, I will give you my information for a telephone consult or email you a better answer if you explain the facts better to give me a basis for an answer.

If it is a complicated case, you obviously have a lawyer to represent you in the case and he/she is the only person who should answer your questions about the pending case.

Re: The parenting seminar

It would help your chances more to get a lawyer. You need one in every divorce.

As to the parenting class, if you are in a county that requires it, you must, under penalty of contempt, attend within the first month of the case. In many counties the court will not proceed with your case until you do, and you can be jailed for contempt for not attending.

Re: The parenting seminar

I don't think so. I would get an attorney as early as possible to work on resolving as many issues as possible before the court activity heats up.

Call me at 732/247/3340 to discuss in more detail.
