Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey
Parenting Time
Baby's (6mos.) Mom and I can't seem to agree on what baby should be eating. When I informed her that I had started solids she went ballistic so I stopped telling her. I have since brought her up to speed with what I was doing now her lawyer is threatening to take away my parenting time. We have joint custody and she is primary residence. Can they do this??

Re: Parenting Time
That is outrageous. She is acting poorly, and her lawyer jumps in to threaten you? You really need a decent lawyer. No, fighting for the next 17 years 6 months, or longer, is NOT the way to go, if you can possibly avoid it. But this is crazy.
Go see a decent divorce lawyer (this is a divorce type question, even if you never married her, and by the way that sounds like an EXCELLENT choice at this point).
I am not near you. I am in Bergen County. Try to find someone reasonably near you. You may call me if you like, and I will try to find someone nearer to you. Good luck. Hopefully, she and her attorney will stop this nonsense.
There are a LOT of important issues here. These issues will directly affect your child's life for many years. You have to act carefully, with some expert advice, to get the best result you can.
I will be happy to discuss this with you; the telephone consultation will be free.

Re: Parenting Time
I hope that your feeding her solids is on the advice of the child's pediatrician because if you are feeding your child solids prematurely there may be some injury to the child
and the POSSIBILITY of such an injury
is enough to deny you visitation if you are just being pigheaded and a bit
too macho.

Re: Parenting Time
My opinion is a mix of both attorneys. I'd like to know what made you switch, i.e. advice from someone, and I'd like to know what her big problem is with this, i.e. advice from someone else.
If things go bad, yes, you could lose some or all of your visitation. It all depends on how the entire case is presented. I would have to know a lot more information to give you a better opinion.
I also agree that you should get an attorney ASAP to put an end to this and to show them that you will not be bullied, otherwise the next 17.5 years will not be fun. Although my office is in New Brunswick, I actually live much farther south and I practice in Atlantic & Cape May counties. My initial consultations are always free. So, feel free to call me at 732/247/3340 and we can discuss your case and I'll give you your options.
Good luck!
