Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

Paternity

I am a male college student who's exgirlfriend (never married) doesn't want our child to bear my name, also she is not going to name me as father. What are my rights in establishing paternity and surname? Also I am willing to do whatever I can for my child, but am fearful of what her family could do to me (moneywise) before I finish school, would I loose any rights if I waited to pressure for paternity till I graduate in 2 years?

Re: Paternity

hi - since you might not want to wait 2 years befoe getting some kind of visitation time, or parenting time, with your child, i'd file the complaint for paternity asap. blood tests will determine if the child is/isn't yours. they can still come after you for child support whether or not you're in school, or insist on paternity being established. feel free to call me at 609 263-0089 if you have any other questions. good luck !!
