Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

Paternity after 11 years?

My boyfriend ran into a former lover..from high school he is now 29 years old. She told him he may be the father of her child born 11 years ago. He is having a paternity test to have this question answered once and for all. She took another young man to court when the child was first born and he relinquished all Parental rights...or so she says. What financial obligations will my boyfriend after all this time? Will he have to pay back child support, can she go after him for this after all this time? He was completely unaware of the situation until recently as in high school she told him it wasn't his.

Beware of this woman. Do the right thing but beware of tricks. If someone else has been determined to the child' father she may be on shaky legal ground with this assertion.

Re: Paternity after 11 years?

He should only be responsible for child support as of the date that she files an application for child support with the Court. He should require her to do this through the Court system. She may not even be granted the right to seek paternity if she legally established another man as the father previously. If you would like to further discuss this matter, please contact my secretary, Debbie, at 856-795-6700 to schedule a consultation.
