Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

I have a permanent restraining order on a man I was never married to but had an affair with. He is also a convicted felon who has already served his time. I recently was contacted by phone by a court representative who says that this man has recently filed a motion to have the restraining order dismissed . More than 5 years have passed. What benefit would this man have in doing this? If I agree to the dismissal, can he sue me all these years later and say he was never guilty eventhough a judge approved the restraining order. I have moved quite a distance away from him, left my previous place of employment and have started a new life for myself. I have never been officially served with the court papers yet because no one knows my new address, but I was contacted by phone and I returned the court's call, explained what a hardship it would be for me to attend this court hearing and fight this. I recently got a job after being out of work for a year, I cannot afford to take time off of work, have no one to watch my younger daughter to deal with this and no money for legal representation. I just wanted legal advice before I make my decision to dismiss this case. The court said if I dismiss it all I have to do is put it in writing to the judge and I don't have to be inconvenienced.
