Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey
I purchased a home from my inlaws in 2002. The price was below market value (it was in bad condition as well). I put 30-40000$ into it after the purchase. I am now getting divorced and my wife's attorney is saying that I am not entitled to 50% since her parents sold it to us cheap. Is there any basis for her to make this argument? I put 30000$ down on the house and paid al the closing costs etc. My wife hase never put anything into the house finaically.

This needs to be reviewed by your divorce attorney. You have a good argument, and will have to fight for this.

Robert Davies is right. The house is probably the most valuable marital asset. The wife's lawyer was hired because he agreed to get her more than half of the value of the house. You lawyer has
to fight against this, perhaps starting off by asserting that you deserve more than 50%.
