Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey
Hi, I'm a recent college graduate going into grad school and am planning to get married soon. I was curious as to the different legal obligations that come with marriage in terms of the spouses' responsibilities to one another, not to future children. Also, if there are any legal responsibilities, can they be waived in a prenuptial agreement? My fiancee and I are curious because we will both still be students and, at this time, would like no legal ties except the title of marriage. Thank you very much.

It will depend in what jurisdiction you live. If you live in New Jersey assets acquired during the marriage are subject to equitable distribution. While a pre nuptial may allow the protection of pre marital assets there must be consideration for that agreement. I would suggest that yopu consult an attorney such as myself before marriage so that you understand your responsibilities
