Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

hi recently i got divorced in new jersey, and am obtaining a mortgage. if my attourney put in my divorce decree she has to do the closing for me what if i dont want her nor do i want to pay her any more. she also put in my decree that i must borrow an additional 10thous to pay her! ive already paid her over 30thous i have two small kids, plus i under stand she spoke with my mortgage rep when i told him not to. i asked him if he put an additional 5thous into my loan because she tacked on an additional 5thous. what would happen if i went to a realestate lawyer even though my ex has to use his attourney for the closing as well? thanks lisa

I can't see how an attorney can force you into hiring them. It sounds like you have been ripped off. I do a ton of divorces and the vast majority of my cases settle for under $5000. She should give you a bill and you owe what you owe, not a dime more. Nothing will happen. I can refer you to a great local real estate lawyer. Call me anytime.

It sounds ridiculous that some lawyer coulc compel you to take out a mortgege in an amount which would enable you to pay her. You do not have to use her for the closing. So far as what you owe her you can pay her or request fee arbitration if you disagree with the fee you are being charged.
