Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey
How can I reign in Attorney on fees etc?
I've gone through over a year of court visits and trials straightening out a few child support issues. I've kept all paper work. Now my attorney suggets we recoup legal fees from my X, through a lengthy process. Since then (a month ago) she does not return my e-mails or calls. I'm simply trying to find out how many hours this might run up in bills etc. Is there a way to better control this situation without firing my attorney? Also, what is required in this process of recouping legal fees... does it require more depositions and court visits?

Sounds odd. If you are just filing motions, the issue of counsel fees should have been in the motions. That's what I always do. In fact, to save my client's money, I just put in the order that I will submit a certification of services if we win, this way, they don't pay for drafting something we may not even win.
Keep in mind, counsel fees are typically given where there is bad faith. Where there is none, you may be facing an uphill battle.
I think it's far too late to switch attorneys, but feel free to drop me an email to tell me more about your situation and I'll give you a better opinion.
