Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

I was in a relationship and fathered a child, it is court appointed to have money taken from my check to go for child support. I have changed jobs a couple of times and am behind from not working when laid off. The job that I was laid off from was a small company, I found out my boss had taken money out of my check and not paid it to the Family Court to pay the child support. I was told that he never showed up for court so I am now responsible for paying money to the Family court that I already had deducted from my paycheck for that purpose. Is that the way the law works? I would think he is the one they should be after. I am paying my back support but don't feel that I should be held accountable for that guys wrong doing. What should I do?

If you have documentation that the support was deducted from your paycheck, and documentation that it was never remitted to the child support collection office, you can either have an attorney send a demand letter to the employer, file a lawsuit against him, or see if criminal charges can be filed (since this was a form of theft). However, you remain liable for the child support arrears.
