Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

Re-opening a divorce complain

Once a divorce proceeding is settled, not through trial, is there any way to re-open the case? After three mediation I caved in from the pressure and settled without a trial. After my MESP, I instructed my attorney to go to trial. The judge order two additional mediations at the court house, the second of which I had to postpone a vacation with my children to attend. My legal bill is almost $10,000 all of which I have had to borrow. My attorney said it would probably cost an additional $5,000. to go to trial. When I meet my ex he had no high school diploma, no job. He moved in with me. I helped him get a GED. Complete training and attain a position as a paid firefighter/emt and we started a heating & a/c business over 17 years ago. We were married 18 years and lived together 4 years prior to marriage. My ex makes over 65K as a firefighter and in 2004 alone he withdraw over $30,000 for personal expenses from the business. I was pressured to settle and as a result I got nothing. Please, please is there any recourse for me?

Your situation is not uncommon, and not as easy to remedy as if you had not settled on what you describe as poor terms. I assume that you have already tried to speak to your attorney and not gotten satisfactory results. You will undoubtedly need an attorney. Call my office if you think I can help. 973 890 0400.
