Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey
Reversal of Emancipation
I have a question regarding New Jersey law concerning emancipation. My husband's two children were emancipated after quitting college. One attended 3 years, didn't have grades to continue in major selected. Quit, worked fulltime for a year, lived in her own apartment, paid own living expenses. Now found major that has lower GPA requirements and is returning to school. Second child went one semester, quit, worked fulltime as professional dancer for a year on touring show, turned down second year contract, floated for a year at various dance jobs, etc. Now returning after being out 2 1/2 years. Their mother now wants money, but won't say how much, hints she'll go back to court. Would like to avoid court, but we don't know if they would be automatically ''unemancipated'', as she claims, or how heavily their earnings, living on their own, would be weighted to determine our contribution. Also, husband was out of work 5 months last year, took significant pay cut, we have 4 year old and 5 month old. Their mother earns probably 2x of my husband. Also is 4 years the limit to have to pay for college? Any advice/answers would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Reversal of Emancipation
For me you have asked a questin which requires some research. I am not aware, presently, that it is possible to reverse emancipation. It is like unringing a bell. 800 273 7933
