Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

Secret Marriage

Several years ago I secretly got married and divorced. No one ever knew and we never lived together or filed taxes together. My question is this. Is there any way for someone to find out about this? Will they know about this when I get remarried?

Re: Secret Marriage

Both marriage certificates and divorce documents are public records. They are filed in governmental offices where they are generally available to the people who work there and to the public if a proper request is given. Whether someone would know where to look or why they would look is another question. But you should know that both are public records.

Keep in mind that this advice is given based on the little bit of information that you have

provided in your question. My advice may change based on other information. Further, no one

can rely on advice from an attorney who has not been retained. You cannot rely on this advice

because we have not personally met and you have not retained me as an attorney. Good luck!
