Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

Seeking help w/divorce and related costs

My husband moved out of our home in Dec. 2007 and has moved into an apartment in PA. We have been married for 8 of the 15 years together and have two children. During our marriage he has cheated at least two times that I am aware. During our seperation, he has also cheated and while we were''reconciling''. Just recently, I have filed for child custody/support/visitation. At this time, I am unable to afford attorney fees. The norm for just a consultation is $125-$250 an hour for an attorney I may not even select. I have several questions and have started doing my own research on some of my concerns. I know I will need an attorney or a mediator to help me dissolve my marriage. My 1st question is, how can I or what can I do to minimize my fees before entering into the attorney's office? I live in the Camden County area. My 2nd question is because we are not divorced yet and share property, is he or not still liable for his share of the mortgage and utilities? I imagine that once he's ordered to pay child support he will stop paying his share of the mortgage.

If your husband has savings he will have to pay your attorney. He is required to continue paying for everything that he paid for when you lived together, at least until the divorce is decided. He must support the entire household and if that leaves him no money that is not your fault.
