Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

Separated-not yet divorced-husband buying home

My husband and I are about to file for divorce - amicable and uncontested. He has just put an offer to buy a home, which was accepted. Since our divorce is not yet final, am I responsible for this debt, even though I'm not on the mortgage or note? Am I also entitled to half the property? Is there anything I can sign to completely legally remove myself from any connection to this purchase?

hi - usually the filing date of the divorce complaint is the cut-off date. so, if he bought the house before one of you filed for divorce, you might be entitled to an interest in any equity gained from the purchase date until the divorce filing. if you are not on the note or mortgage, then you are not financially responsible for the debt. if you have any further questions, please feel free to call me at 609 263-0089. good luck !!
