my spouse and i are separating. How long before we can file for divorce?

It all depends on the cause of action for divorce. "No Fault" is 18 months while "Extreme Cruelty" (physical or emotional) can be immediate as long as the last act of cruelty is at least 90 days old.
Counsel would advise you on the best course of action.
