Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey
seperation time
I've been married for 7 months and just recently seperated. Do we really have to be seperated for 7 months before divorce. Are there any exceptions

Re: separation time
There is no rule about the length of a separation prior to divorce. Many of the fault grounds for divorce would allow you to obtain a divorce immediately. Keep in mind that this advice is based purely on the little bit of information that you have given to me. There certainly may be other factors that would change my opinion. Further, no one can rely on advice from an attorney who has not been retained. Since it appears that you have not retained an attorney, you may want to contact a divorce attorney (either me or someone else) to discuss your matter in more detail. Only then will you be able to rely on the advice. If you call me, mention Law Guru and your first one hour consultation will be free. Good luck! Rob Gleaner
Re: seperation time
There are many 'grounds' (legally acceptable reasons) for divorce which do not require separation for any particular length of time. I would need more information to advise you.
If you are in northern NJ, give me a call.
My contact information can be obtained from the links below, just click on the Attorney Profile link. Let my secretary know you found me through LawGuru, and I will give you a free initial consultation.
Of course, you can not rely on the advice of an attorney given over the internet. Also, the exact facts of your situation, including facts which you have not mentioned in your question, may completely change the result for your situation.
