Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey
He Served Me Divorce Papers
My Husband served me with divorce papers yesterday.
They did not come from a lawyer. They came from the court and he is the plaintiff.
On the bottoom it states that if I cannot afford an attorey call a legal service office.
I have done that and been told over and over that I don't qualify for Legal Aid.
He is also not eligible for Legal Aid. How is he filing for divorce without a lawyer?
I plan to contest the divorce...How do I go about this.
Do I need a lawyer and why if he doesn't?

Re: He Served Me Divorce Papers
Anyone has the absolute right to represent his or herself in a divorce matter. However, it is best if one obtains an attorney. If you are thinking of obtaining an attorney, please contact me at 973-541-1500 or at [email protected] for a free initial consultation. Whether you choose to use an attorney or not, under no circumstances ignore the divorce papers that you received. Failure to answer within the required time period will elad to a default judgment against you.
