A guardianship requires certifications of incompetency by two psychiatrists or a psychiatrist and a psychologist. The filing fee is $200.00. It is at least twenty hours of legal work and could be thirty hours of legal work at an hourly rate that can be discussed. Your son must be appointed an attorney for the guardianship action and will spend as much as ten hours interviewing your son and you and speaking to any involve mental health professionals, writing a report and appearing in cour.

I would expect that you would use the psychiatrist who presently monitors your son and that the

services of a psychologist can be obtained. The psychologist that I have used charged $600.00 to interview the mentally deficient young man at the institution where he resides and to prepare a report.

Call me if you like.

As in the last answer in a guardianship proceed ing you need 2 certifications of doctors who have treated your son dated within 30 days of the filing of the complaint. I would expect your legal fee to be approximately 2000-2500 plus costs and the cost of the attorney who is apppointed to represent him. Please call my office to set up an appointment.

Well, here is a third lawyer answering your question.

Yes, you need two doctors to certify.

Cost: I think the lawyer's fee should be less than $2000, as an estimate. I would suggest that you do as much of the running around and legwork as possible, to cut down the lawyer's time and expense. Give me a call, I would like to help you. I am doing a guardianship right now, for an elderly woman with dementia; her nephew wants to care for her.
