Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

My son is 18. Yesterday, he got mad at me, threw some stuff and pushed me. He was out of control. He does have ADHD and Mood Disorder. I called the police hoping they would maybe take him to the ER for a psych hold. My knee was a little red from when he pushed me. Because of that, they arrested him. They did let him go with a summons to appear at the end of the month. My question is, can I drop the charges? I understand the arrest will be there, I am also hoping it can be expunged. I really do not want this affecting his chances of future employment or anything. He agreed to go to counseling, I was also going to maybe mention it to the judge. Also, are we looking at any fines for this, how does this work. They said it was a misdemeanor. Actually, what the officer wrote on the complaint is not even true and today, there is no bruising or anything.
