Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

Spousal support

My Fiance' lives with me in CA. His divorce was from NJ. He was hit with an alimony of $4400 per month because he was a high paid executive. He was asked to retire (he's 50) along with 300 other people. He took the retirement went back to school and is now teaching middle school. His income has been cut dramatically. He cut the alimony to $2000 because that is all we can afford. There are no minor children involved. He is close to $40,000 in arrears and has nothing in his name anymore. The probation dept had his retirement garnished and she gets 65% of the net. My Fiance' sends the balance to make up $2,000. He did go back to court to have the amount lowered, but the judge did not do that. Is it possible for us to get married without this alimony effecting my financial situation?

Thank you
