Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey
Do I stand to lose anything?
Can I lose my home to my live-in boyfriend if our relationship has come to an end after living together for four years with no written contracts of any kind. We live together and each contribute to the bills. But the house is mine in my name only. He had nothing to do with the purchase and was not at the closing. The only thing his name is on is the mortgage insurance policy. First it's my mother, then it's my brother, then it's my boyfriend. They are listed in that order as beneficiaries on the mortgage insurance policy if I die. He said if I throw him out that he can get half of my house and I will be forced to sell it. I just want him out of my life.

he could certainly cause you some legal troubles. he could claim that you had a contract, an agreement, that he would own half; or he may come up with other reasons.
You really should sit down with an attorney who does a lot of divorce (this is a divorce type problem) who is not too far from you, and get some advice. Then you can take action, and have a clear idea of what your options are. Good luck to you, it is never a good situation.

Re: Do I stand to lose anything?
As Mr. Davies said, I suggest you get an attorney to help you. I don't see how he can take your house from you. However, he could cause some legal problems for you depending on how involved he was with the house, i.e. paying the mortgage. Feel free to call me at 732/247/3340 and we can discuss your case. My initial consultations are always free.
Re: Do I stand to lose anything?
It is your house alone. His name being on the mortgage insurance is a bit odd because the mortgage company is usually the first beneficiary.
You should call me and explain how he
came to be named as a beneficiary of the mortgage insurance.
