Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

Stepchild Adoption

My daughter now 3 1/2 never met her father. He is aware of her existence, but never attempted to see her, met her, or have any relationship with her. He is not on her birth certificate either. No one is as far as father info is on her bc. I am now with someone else who wishes to give her his last name. What is the right and legal way of doing this?

Re: Stepchild Adoption

I suggest that you find an attorney reasonably close to you, to help put through an adoption. However, there are many serious results of adoption, and you really need to find out exactly what this will mean for you and for him.

I have done a couple of stepchild adoptions. It can give the child a sense of stability knowing that she really does have a daddy. But you have to be careful, and know what you are doing.

If you would like, give me a call; I am in northern New Jersey. The telephone consultation will be free. I will do what I can to help you out.
