Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

subject

I pay 115.00 per week for child support ordered through probation in Morris County, NJ. I have court ordered visitation as well. My ex-girlfriend continously violates the order in several ways. I am at the point of signing over my parental rights due to her threats of getting my wife and family in trouble with the law. She plants negative disparaging remarks into my son's head and when he does visit me he ''spys'' and reports to his mother who then harasses me.

I need to know if I am obligated to pay child support if I sign over my parental rights. This is the worst decision I have ever had to make. I love my son deeply but feel in my heart my family is at risk for getting in trouble with the law due to my ex's vindictive nature. This had been going on for 8 years.

Please advise. Thank you for your time.

Re: subject

You can't just sign over your parental rights. She has to agree to release you from your support obligation by signing a court order. Once you both sign it and a judge signs it, you will not have any rights or obligations concerning your son. You should have an attorney prepare the proper papers. If I can be of help, please contact my office.
