Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

Tax Liabilty prior to marriage

My wife and I are legally separarted. Our agreement included a cash settlement paid to my wif and ongoing bills to be paid for a year. Part of the agreement was for her to relinquish all rights to tax returns for years 2004,2005,2006. Tax reurn was short $6000 due to wife's unpaid social security taxes accrued prior to our marriage. What kind of recourse do I have? Can I just stop paying the ongoing bills that were agreed to in our separation agreement. Thanks in advance.

Re: Tax Liabilty prior to marriage

If you entered into a property settlement agreement with knowledge of the $6,000.00 premarriage tax debt and agreed to help pay for it you can do nothing. If somehow this information was concealed from you you can move to revise the agreement as to the tax debt and your agreement

should provide a mechanism for this.
