Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

I was told I shall not be responsible for my spouse's debits (and lost from the gambling such as horse races) once I start to file the divorce process with a court. Is this true and can you please elaborate? What is the impact to the properties such as the house we currently co-own if the debts is big.

There is no reason to go forward in this case without an attorney. In general, the divorce complaint takes a snapshot in time of the parties' financial picture. Thus, anything that happens afterwards, such as a run up in credit card debt, will have no impact on the other party. Of course, this is speaking in general terms and only an attorney that speaks with you about your specific case can give you proper advice. Call me at 732/247/3340 to discuss.
